The ultimate growbox light: PL-L, or linear cfl.

Post by Anti-FlagPUNK » Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:14 pm

These lights are bangin'
I found out about them on the Icmag forums https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=112670

The ballast is a Fullham workhorse 8. It puts out 220 watts, which (in this configuration) will power 4 of the 55watt lamps shown.

The lamps and sockets combined are just under 23" long. These are perfect for a personal grow.

These lights are very bright! Turn them off when you are near the cabinet, or you WILL fuck your eyes up. I wired them through a light switch so i can turn them off easily while I'm tending the plantlets. I also installed 4x23watt cfl that dont run through the switch- so i can see what I'm doing when I turn the main lights off, and spectrum supplementation. The 55 watt pl-l's are 3000k, and the 23watt cfl's are 5000k.

I got these lights+ballast+sockets from 1000bulbs for just over $90 + shipping ($30 to Canada)

looks pretty solid.. The only thing I have to say is watch out for the lights where they're hanging. The plants are going to grow towards them and there isn't much space for them to be at that angle in the first place. Also lights give out more light when they're on their side, not upside down.

Lmfao.
Ever hear of VSCROG?
The purpose of vertical lights is to maximize lumen efficiency, and will far outperform a horizontal configuration in any case.

Think about it, Why have 1/2 of the light dampened by a reflector? Instead use all 360* of light.

VScrog is pretty interesting, there's a guide here about it

I'm thinking though that the space is awfully small and how are you going to incorporate a screen in there?

I wasn't talking about the ones hanging in the middle. I should have said it better, I'm talking about the 23 watt CFL's you have. This should be an interesting grow though.. good luck

Oh, my mistake!
Those little CFL's are in there so I can see what im doing when I turn off the PL-L's.
Those PL-L's have to be turned off when your near the cab, because they will blind you if you give them the chance to.

Photos of the cab w/ screen will be up soon.

I'd leave the cfl's in as long as your can... they can't hurt, only add more light. but take them out when they are getting in the way.

So you are going to put a screen around the lights? I really do not think you have enough space to make that work. At the least you should be rotating the plants every day so they grow straight for awhile so they can eventually grow against a screen and not just through it. Good luck, at any rate

yeah these less frequented sections tend to confuse people a lot (including me) into thinking that the threads are new cause their on the first page, while in reality they're old cause there's just not many threads being posted...
