best anti virus for windows 7

Post by weedguru_animal »

With the dekstop I purchased today, I received a copy of norton anti virus 2010. I have yet to install it, as my experiences with norton in the past have been irritating. For the last year or so I have been using avast anti virus. Though free, it seems to do the trick. My question is...will the norton anti virus 2010 be better than avast????

Also...Is the windows 7 firewall trustworthy? Or should I use a separate firewall???

I also use Avast Antivir. Or whatever but to be honest when it comes to antiviruses I don't have a fucking clue how they work, like something pops up as a threat so you click "quarantine" but isn't it still on your fucking computer?!!? Anyways, now I'm using Kapersky by reccomendation of a good friend/computer geek. But I still don't see how if you have a virus, just clicking "quarantine" makes it go away...

It doesn't make it go away. You have to click delete to delete the infected file. I don't really know a whole lot about it, but most anti-virus software has an option of trying to "clean" or "disinfect" the infected files. When using "quarantine" the file is moved to a safe place on your disk while the anti-virus program sort of holds sentinel over it. I don't know how much more I'd trust a newer version of Norton.... I'm sure there is plenty of library code to bypass certain parts of established anti-virus programs. But it's probably better than nothing. Do you have anything in particular, Animal, that you are worried about being infected? (programs, files, etc...) Or do you have any worries about a particular source that may subject your computer to harm? (certain websites, programs, nerd ass roommates on your network, etc...)

I haven't had Anti-virus software in a couple years and I'm doing fine. I am however, Quite cautious and particular of the websites I visit, and the things I download and their sources form which they came...

does it not make two programs compete for the same job if you have Aviva anti virus and also AVG running???

only if you let them scan at the same time, which i do not. i use malwarebytes' for scanning because its the only one that does a real job.

or so ive heard. i know alot of people who run multiple anti viruses at the same time, I've only heard scanning is bad at the same time. who knows though, i may be jeopardizing my security but oh fuckin well.

I wouldn't say you were jeopardizing your security...more along the lines of...you are likely having two programs scanning the same files, in the background, perhaps running the exact same checks, which is pointless. Most anti virus programs once running, will scan certain files in your general use of PC. I do not mean a manually started scan of your system...i mean files like downloads, or websites.

AVG does shit all, i just cant get rid of it.

avira scans deeper into download.

and malwarebytes' is good for a hardcore system scan when you want to find and obliterate anything.

Someone told me about an anti-virus I had never heard of...the shop where he got his pc repaired installed it and swore it was the best one...I forget the name but it's something weird, I think it starts with a K. I wanted to search for it on the net, but cant remember the goddamn name....Anyone know what I mean? Kaposki or something like that sorta
