FIFA World Cup 2010 [South Africa]

Post by SToNeR ChRiS » Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:22 pm

Well the last time a world cup took place, I had just joined this forum. I thought it would be cool to have a thread to discuss anything related to this year's world cup! The hosts South Africa just played the opener against Mexico and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Hopefully there are a bunch of you who, like myself, will watch a decent amount of the championship and have thoughts to share.

France plays Uruguay in a couple of hours. It should definitely be a good one!
I saw on TV today, this man lost his son, his son died...
So he had him cremated, took his ashes, and then made it into a Diamond ring...
Now he watches his son shine every day.
I just thought about that, while I sit here ashing in this ashtray...

France 0-0 Uruguay

surprise result as France should have accounted for Uruguay easily one would have thought

That, or France should not even be in the World Cup at all if it weren't for Thierry Henry's handball against Ireland. All semi joking aside, that was definitely the poorest performance out of the three matches which have been played so far. I say three matches, because I missed the fourth this morning. I woke up at 7:30 am to watch South Korea vs Greece but fell asleep for the second one. The second one was one I'd really like to see in Argentina vs Nigeria. I made it to the 10 minute mark, where Argentina was leading 1-0 already. Luckily for myself I recorded the match, so I'll watch it soon :). England vs United States is coming up in less than an hour. I look for it to be a pretty good battle with England coming out on top.

I watched both the South Korea V Greece, and the Nigeria Vs Argentina matches...
South Korea were impressive against an unimpressive and bickering Greece.
They moved the ball well, and attacked all game long.

Argentina V Nigeria was the pick of the game, despite the only goal being scored early on...
there were plenty of shots on goal, and near misses... Argentina look good,
but they look individual.

Those horns are extreemly annoying. I just saw the news how many other people are also complaining. I was just watching the news and it was mentioned that FIFA were not going to ban them because the horns are part of the 'African Culture'.

France have blamed the noise for their poor show

I understand where Evra was coming from, but it's not like all the teams haven't had to deal with the horn. I'm not the hugest fan of the vuvuzela (the horn), but banning it would be ludicrous!

Ivory Coast had a strong showing against Portugal this morning... they were actually the better team between the two. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Brazil takes on North Korea in about an hour and a half. It should be a pretty interesting matchup, but I expect Brazil to win by 3 or 4 goals... perhaps 2.

I missed Slovakia vs New Zealand this morning, but I recorded it. My father is from Czechoslovakia, so while I would usually root for Czech Republic, because they're not in it, Slovakia will have to do!

I asked my Dad a question about the World Cup yesterday but he wasn't sure of the answer. Are all the games being played in the same stadium?

Nope... Polokwane, Pretoria, Rustenburg, Nelspruit, Johannesburg (2 of them), Bloemfontein, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town all have stadiums which are being used in the competition.

The Brazil vs PDR Korea was a lot closer than expected, ending 2-1. Good on the Koreans. With Portugal, Ivory Coast, Brazil and Korea all in the same group, it truly is the "Group of Death".

haha Yeah. Poor players will always find some excuse on which to blame their suckiness...
If you're good, you're good. If you suck, you suck. Plain and simple. Plus good players usually block out all the external noise... and focus on the game. Anywho... watched the North Korea vs. Brazil game today. (in class haha) Good game.

Just on my itoch here... Watching the Uruguay vs South Africa match. Uruguay is leading 1-0 at halftime. On a more important note, however, I've come to the realization that Uruguay backwards is 'ya u guru' :).

Brazil vs Korea really was a good one waffles.

America got fucked by the referee today, from all angles I cannot tell what offsides he was talking about........

It gets me mad, it is supposed to be unbiased......

Yeah, but it was still a good game. They played well... I didn't expect it from them.
