T5 VHO Light

Post by Everything Green » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:24 am

I've started my first garden a few weeks ago and I am running it under T5 VHO 44 Solar Flare lights as I have heard great things about them. My main reason was to keep the temperature to a minimum as I am growing inside of a closet. I currently have 3 plants in their vegetative stage with the fox farm ocean forest soil and I haven't had any issues or problems yet. The plants all look green and healthy. My plan is to grow under the T5 light all the way through to harvest, by switching from the blue lamps to red lamps, but as fluorescent lights are still developing technology and don't even come close to the lumens produced by a 1000 watt MH or HPS I am concerned that this will effect the growth rate and the yield. Anyone have any experience growing with the same type of light I'm using? I've read that the light spectrum from a fluorescent is much better than the light spectrum from emitted from an MH lamp, and that a better light spectrum is better than more lumens. Any thoughts, experiences, or advice are much appreciated.

Nope, it's the other way around EG...You actually want more of the blue then the red due to the u.v.'s. Blue has a more rubust spectrum then the reds. I'm only using my fluors in my nursery as they are best for rooting and not scorching the tender blades.

I just read this and I'm gonna harvest in about a week...I used fluros all the way, blue lamps for veg and red for flowering. This is my first grow so I don't know how my yield is compared to an hps light but it's alright. Next time I'll use fluros for veg and hps for flowering and also add co2 to the mix. Also added 6 clones to the garden when the first three were about 4 weeks old and because the light was too high for the clones they stretched like crazy and got to be a pain in the ass as they cave in under their own weight. I don't have any recent pics of the plants but I do have some of late veg and early flowering...
