Re: SpRi7e's Tobacco Grow Log

I just harvested 2 more plants.. total of 3 being done and have about 30 more this season to go. My 20 foot long shed is almost completely filled up with tobacco leaves. I have absolutely no idea where I'm gonna put the other ones.. I have another shed that I'm going to use, but even then it's not nearly enough.

Here's the size of the average leaf

here's the whole shed filled up

sorry for the shitty pics, my camera was almost dead and didn't focus right

What if you put them closer together?

In drying kilns they are put much closer together than that

So you have your own green house? That's cool as hell.

nah, just a drying area, no green house.

I wasn't sure how far to space them apart, after seeing that picture though I'll definitely tighten up the bunch tomorrow. I'll get better pictures in then and I might harvest another plant or two

Make sure you got lots of air circulation though..but yeah the commercially grown stuffed is packed right together to dry.

The stick you see these leaves on is called a kiln stick and that stick is placed on a rack inside the kiln...everything is jam packed together (this is the old fashioned way). The bottom pics are traditional kilns. They can control

Higher, you may be giving him bad advice. kilns heat up iirc, his shed does not.

You are correct totally. I might be...not to sure.
I just know what I learned from working on a tobacco farm myself. But I only picked the fresh leaves.. wasn't really involed in the drying and curing processes

not sure exactly to what extent an old fashioned drying kiln controls the environment

That's pretty tall man...

Being in a baccy field while high is pretty fucking cool...especially if they are tall plants

I spent 3 months working in one like this

Fucking baccy plants on the horizon,,,

Yep. I worked on the machine that drives up the rows and we "pick" the ripe leaves off the plants. Dunno if this is true english but we called the machine a "prime machine" and we were called "primers"

I would probably hate it, tobacco leaves are fucking STICKY to deal with and hard to get off.. having to do that every day would be ridiculous!

Insects started to go at it with my plants, so they all got harvest today.. just took pictures, I gotta hang them tomorrow morning. I was carrying them in (I think it's 7 stalks?) two at a time and each one seemed to weigh 15 pounds each give or take

Image

btw, I still got 26 more plants that just got transplanted in the garden.. they should grow to be about 3 feet tall each. Not as big, but the quantity makes up for it.
